Trump’s Solar Wall

pexels-photo-421888During a speech on Wednesday in Iowa, President Donald Trump first publicly proposed the idea of including solar panels in his design of the new wall on the Mexican border.

In Trump’s own words: “We’re thinking of something that’s unique. We’re talking about the southern border: lots of sun, lots of heat. We’re thinking about building the wall as a solar wall, so it creates energy and pays for itself. And this way, Mexico will have to pay much less money, and that’s good, right?”

Gleason Partners LLC, an architecture firm in Las Vegas, claims to have been the first to submit the solar wall proposal. Gleason insists that the power gained from it would pay off its construction costs in under 20 years. Of course, this is only a rough estimate and factors like light intensity changes haven’t been evaluated yet.

Many economists in the solar energy division are pleased to hear to this, though they would prefer a different location. Overall a solar wall would be of great benefit for both the USA and Mexico. The idea must, however, be further assessed.
